There is more optimism amongst Bucks engineering
manufacturers now than there has been for some
time. Despite the ongoing highly competitive threat
to the county's engineering fraternity from cost-cutting
countries such as Portugal, Thailand, Hong Kong
and China there is a chink in the exodus from
UK to other regions around the world.
This could be for a number of reasons but probably
most significant is the fact that UK engineer
businesses offer a far superior level of quality,
finish and accuracy. Therefore wastage in manufacturing
is kept to a minimum because there is maximum
turnover in production.
Generally around the UK, the purchasing manager's
index suggests that manufacturers are recovering
well from the doldrums of recent years with positive
figures showing for the 11th consecutive month.
What's more a manufacturing survey of the eurozone
has also reported upbeat data for the ninth consecutive
month. Germany, France and Italy, the three largest
economies, all reported an increase in their manufacturing
index, with France showing the best improvement.
Strangely enough though, according to manufacturing
analysts employment prospects across the sector
are not very encouraging!
