By the very nature of their vocation you would expect captains of industry such as chief executives, managing directors and so on to be brim full of confidence. But not so!

According to the Aziz Management Communications Index, over 80% of UK company directors just loath public speaking and find it the most nerve-wracking activity they are obliged to undertake. For example, they find addressing a large conference audience considerably more difficult than other business tasks such as reviewing financial data, preparing business plans and managing employees.

Indeed, a wide range of business tasks which involve speaking or presentation seem to strike fear into the average business person. Around 62% would be nervous or worried at the prospect of presenting to the City, and 61% dreaded the thought of having to give a TV interview.

And it's not something that is gradually getting less as the workforce gains more confidence. There has been a 14% increase over the past 12 months of directors saying they prefer not to speak in public yet they are all aware of it's importance in today's highly competitive business arena.
