An innovative project to map problem hotspots
in Buckinghamshire is going ahead which aims to
ensure that the numerous public agencies and voluntary
groups target their limited resources effectively
by working closely together and sharing the data
they collect.
The police already use a crime mapping system
has been successful, among other things, in reducing
the number of thefts from cars particularly in
Aylesbury town centre. A hotspot was identified;
extra patrols and security measures were put in
place and these led to a reduction reducing the
problem. It was also noted that theft from cars
did not just move elsewhere after this initiative.
This new strategy is seen as a positive step towards
reducing burglaries from commercial and domestic
properties as well as arson, graffiti, homelessness,
anti-social behaviour and other problems which
can affect everyone's quality of life.
