With winter on our doorstep Bucks businesses would do well to heed a little bit of research from across The Pond. According to a Cornell University study, low office temperatures can have a noticeable effect on staff motivation causing people to become inefficient.

Researchers measured workers’ performance at two temperature levels – 20oC (68oF), the temperature of many workplaces, and 25oC (77oF). Apparently, the warmer workers made 44% fewer typing errors and increased their typing output by 150%.

The tests were carried out at the Orlando, Florida, headquarters of the Insurance Office of America. As one employee pointed: “Let’s move everyone onto the beach and we’ll triple productivity!”
